Michael argues with his agent, played to perfection by director Sydney Pollack. The best scene in the movie, imo.
"YOU WERE A TOMATO!!! A TOMATO DOESN'T HAVE LOGIC!!!!"
I love this movie!!!❤️😊
I don't think there's a single scene in this movie that isn't brilliant!
My favorite scenes in this movie are between Sustin Hoffman and Sydney Pollock! They’re just brilliant together!
I miss the 80's.
The funny thing is that the only reason Pollack directed this, is because Hoffman already fired two directors who "didn't work out" due to creative disagreements. Pollack agreed to do it providing he would have creative control. And Pollack fought tooth and nail NOT to have to act in the movie. But Hoffman won that battle. ruclips.net/video/ThY4Qrov7vQ/видео.html
"No one...will hire you." "You are a wonderful actor. But you're too...much...trouble." Little pauses make the words sink in.
This is definitely an iconic scene, but sometimes I ask, whose side are you on? George or Michael’s?
Now that I think about it, the scene at the very end with Dustin dressed up as Dorothy Michaels walking , “she” looks exactly like Jane Fonda in the 9 to 5 movie.
This movie could have gone south real fast if it wasn't for it's Intelligent script & outstanding cast!
Why is Tootsie not on Netflix????? So many great movies instead of drivel they have on.
“I *begged* you to get some therapy.” Makes me snort with laughter every time.
You're such a tiggley wiggley 😅😅
Acting on top of acting. Movies were better then.
Så bra 😂😂😂😂😂😊
So good. Every word. (Hits close to home too.)
Anytime a director puts himself in his own movie, it's going to smack of a vanity project! Hitchcock was the only one who could do that, and was for comic effect.
He was perfect as Michael’s agent. Doubt this was a “vanity project.” SMH.
What would happen if the female lead from from _The Last Dragon_ directed a movie about her sink and cabinets, and she was in it?
@@gailwebb9619 Really? So you're saying, of all the THOUSANDS of actors in SAG...The correct fit was a older man who just happened to be the director and not known for acting?
@@CoCotheTurtle Never saw that movie. Was it a children's movie?
@@kendallevans4079 He WAS an actor, acting in at least 16 movies. He was also a producer and director. You do know folks are able to do more than one job, right?
*Spends two minutes yelling and gesticulating* "I'm trying to be calm here !".
One of my favorite scenes of all time.
I love this tomato scene!!!
In that getup.. he looks like he could be a sister to Jane Fonda's character from 9 to 5.
Judy Bernly please hold!
When Sydney jumps and the table rises and cutlery clatters. The whole scene is hysterical.
This scene is comedy gold 🤣
Sydney Pollack was not only a classy director but a terrific actor. In this scene he performs even better than Hoffman!
They don’t make em like this anymore. Everything about this movie is perfection - the writing, direction, acting - even the score! Everyone involved in this movie was a true pro!
I begged you to get some therapy!
Nobody does Vegetables like me ! Ha Ha !
Back then, drag was fun and entertaining. Today, it’s political and threatening.
Find the joy in your life.
Very good movie
Back in normal times when men who wore dresses needed therapy
That was unnecessary. The same is true today except we have a little more understanding as to the cause. The way you people lament about the extremely limited and barely measurable progress made on transgenderism as if it is now this widespread extremely common and immediately accepted phenomenon is ridiculous and you know that it is ridiculous. If this situation happened in 2024 where a straight man is secretly dressing and posing as a woman for employment reasons it wouldn't play out any differently. There is absolutely nothing about today's society that would unquestionably embrace such a concept; if anything Dorsey would be sued for fraud if he were discovered and yes you damn well better believe that a whole slew of people would be wishing he had instead gotten therapy.
Nothing better than a 1 o’clock lunch at a nice restaurant like that where they know who you are first of all, I slipped a guy to $20 bills then I go wash my hands then I sit down with my paper and you gotta love 1982 you just read the paper in the paper business was $1 billion industry now no one cares they get the information off their phone completely different world The newspapers had a run from 1890 early 1900s till about 1999 but this was classic. I’m being 15 years old and laughing my ass off.
I slipped a guy to in the paper business was
“I begged you to get some therapy!”
Dustin Hoffman is wonderful. This is one of my all time favorites. Dorothy Michaels is my hero.
🍅🤣
I'm so embarrassed that I had no idea the Family Guy episode "Go Stewie Go" copies this scene to the letter...
i would have loved to have met him. Sydney Pollack was a really really great Man
"I got to have something to wear besides this", then a playful tap on the shoulder, brilliant!
I didn't know Sydney Pollack was in "Tootsie" He isalways food. He should have acted more.
Agreed, he directed this and had a few amazing scenes.
I am surprised that more people don't notice that. Sometimes he's just a light snack, other times a full meal. But he is always food.
@@CoCotheTurtle I have fat fingers . Sorru .
My favorite scene 😅😅
Fantastic movie by the late Sidney Pollock he got a brilliant cast and a great supporting cast as well my dad loved Sidney Pollock in this movie he said to me Sidney Pollock was fantastic as the agent also dabney Coleman was fantastic also very funny script and a beautiful song by Stephen bishop so l give this movie a five star rating 😂😂
Take a breath, Noelle.
Sydney Pollack was a very good comedic actor

Dustin has a fabulous figure...... small waist is to be envied. ❤
Pollock was hilarious 😂
"You were a Tomato!"😂😂😂😂
Help me out. Hoffman barges in on his agent, who's on the phone with the west coast. So it has to be late in the morning, NYC time, at least. Then, does he go and win the part that same afternoon? The producer says, "we'll send the contracts over this afternoon." So, when Hoffman meets his agent outside the Russian Tea Room, at lunch hour, it has to be the next day, right? My question is, how could the agent NOT KNOW that Hoffman got the part? The contracts were to be sent over the afternoon of the audition. You would think the agent would have been BLOWN AWAY that someone he represented had got a part on a national TV show!
Stop spamming this pedantic comment. Go for a walk, tyake a few deep breaths. Unclench. 😂
It’s a MOVIE. Why do folks feel the need to nitpick so much?
